Architect Albert Kahn's 28 story masterpiece was completed in 1928 at a cost of 10 million dollars. The original design called for 3 towers. Attached on the west side of this tower would be a central tower almost twice this height. To the west of that would be a mirror image of this, the east tower. The Great Depression of 1929 put an end to expansion of the project.
The "Golden Tower of the Fisher Building" was originally gilded with gold. During World War 2 this was stripped off and replaced with green terre cotta. The
golden glow at night is now produced by gold roof lights.
